Warsaw may not be known for its palm tree’s, but actually, they exist. The palm has become a natural part of Jerusalem Avenue.
The palm is not a real one. Instead, it’s made of plastic and metal as a part of the art project “Greetings from Jerusalem Avenue”. The location is at the junction of Jerusalem Avenue and Nowy Swiat Street, on the traffic island at de Gaule Circle in Warsaw.
It took one and a half year’s to construct the palm and it was finished at the 12th of December 2002.
The palm has divided the inhabitants of Warsaw. Some find it funny and others find it unnecessary. The first plans consisted a full line of palm trees but it was rejected.
The total construction cost was 155.000 zloty. The height is around 15 meters.
